One day Anni was twirling and singing one of her original compositions.
"It's my gift!" she declared.
Dizzy, she fell with spectacular gracelessness.
Laying on her back on the tile floor she began flapping her arms and legs
as if she were making a snow angel.
"Falling down is also a gift!" says she.

PICU blues

Yes, we've got 'em. Annika is moving back downstairs to the PICU. Her bleeding increased quite a bit overnight, and it looks like she needs more intravenous access and more frequent labs and closer monitoring. Yuck and damn. Not much else to say.

Oh Moreena & Annika -

I am so sorry. I really wish that they could get this figured out for you guys. It's always the not knowing that is the worst. Tell me what the problem is & how we fix - and us liver moms can hold it together. It's the living in fear and anxiety of wondering what is going to happen that is a killer.

We're praying for you guys - and the doctors so that they can FINALLY get this figured out!

It seems even worse because the way back to normal life at home was so close. And because the last screen seemed to indicate far less danger from the varices.
All my best wishes for Annika. And hope that with the new week the doctors will know how to deal with these new bleeds.

Suck. Not that you guys haven't talked about absolutely everything but a port-a-cath was the only procedure that I looked forward to with Justice....at least then they had solid access to sedate him when he needed more!

Praying for less "exciting" days for you and Anni. Hugs to you all

Oh Moreena - I am so so sorry that Annika is back in the PICU. Is she back on the octreotide? Have they tried the red blood cell tagging scan to try to see where it's coming from (not that it ever worked with Jess as the bleeding had always stopped by the time they got around to that)? Could it be related to the latest surgery instead of those blasted varices? I know you don't have the answers or time to answer but we are sending much love and healing Annika's way and thinking of you as always.

When we can't take a day at a time, we take a second at a time.

I'm so sorry for all you are going through and know that it is much harder to watch one's child go through pain and suffering than to go through it ourselves. I will be praying for healing and the bleeding to stop for Annika and for strength for you.

For those following Annika -

We were in the hospital too and were able to check up on Annika and her mommy. Moreena is remaining strong as ever. And Annkia remains the most polite and articulate 5 year old I've ever met.

When we left yesterday they were still in the PICU, but things were looking better.
